Biography
Sterling A. Brown (born May 1, 1901, Washington, D.C., U.S.—died Jan. 13, 1989, Takoma Park, Md.), was an influential African-American poet, critic, and teacher whose poetry was rooted in folklore sources and Black dialect. Teacher at Howard University for 40 years, Brown was one of the first people to identify folklore as a vital component of the black aesthetic.
